Kingman Yacht Center will begin hauling boats at first light Thursday morning, beginning with the front docks.  All boats will be evacuated from the front dock system as quickly as possible so that we can detach the docks and prepare them for the storm.

All Kingman Boaters should refer to the Kingman Yacht Center Hurricane Plan for information about how this mobilization will affect your boat.

Please be aware that, while KYC will do everything we can to safeguard your property, ultimate responsibility for your boat and any damage to it or other property is yours.

We should start feeling the effects of Earl on Friday afternoon.  Between now and then:

  • All canvas including biminis, dodgers, sails and anything else that might catch the wind, unfurl and create windage should be removed from your boat.  This includes deck chairs, kayaks, tubes, etc.  This applies even if your boat is being hauled.
  • Boats on moorings should add chafing gear to ensure that mooring pennants do not break from excessive movement of the boat.
  • Boats in slips everywhere except the front docks should add extra lines.  If we need to move your boat, it's not a problem to undo a few extra lines.  But it could be a real problem if your boat stays where it is and is not sufficiently secured.
  • Check your batteries and bilge pumps to make sure that they can cope with a heavy rain.  This is especially important if you haven't been aboard your boat for a while, and your pumps have already had to deal with the 4 inches of rain we received early last week.
  • If you are unable to get to your boat before midday Friday, contact one of your boating friends and ask for their assistance in looking after your boat.  People are always happy to help out in a pinch.
  • We will continue to haul boats as long as the weather permits according to the schedule posted in the Hurricane Plan.  Because of the short amount of time available, it is unlikely that we will accomplish full evacuation of the Back Basin.  Therefore your assistance with the above is especially important if your boat is in the Back Basin.

The marina front desk will be manned as of 8:00AM Thursday morning to answer your questions in person, or by phone at (508) 563-7136 X100.

Additional updates will be posted on this site as needed.
