Green Initiatives
Kingman Yacht Center has spent well over a million dollars in the past 10 years on improvements to benefit the local environment.
We were the first marina in the Northeast to dispense bio-diesel fuel at the fuel dock (in fact, that's all we sell). Biodiesel replaces 10 perecent of the petroleum product with biologically-produced fuel, thus reducing our dependence on foreign oil. KYC was years ahead of requirements to install an infrastructure to recycle pressure-wash water and thus keep metals and paints from getting into the ground water or running off into our beautiful harbor. We also installed rain gardens to capture and filter out oils and pollutants from storm water before it runs into the harbor. We didn't do these things because we had to, but because they were the right thing to do.
It's the same with our solar power production. In 2010, Kingman Yacht Center switched on the largest commercial photovoltaic solar system on Cape Cod. We generate 20-25% of our electrical needs without relying on non-renewable energy sources, reducing CO2 emissions by 80 tons each year. Click here to view the marina's real-time solar production.
We're proud of our green initiatives, and committed to our stewardship of Red Brook Harbor and Buzzards Bay. Most important, we believe that we demonstrate how environmentally responsible practices can work in a real-world business environment. Kingman Yacht Center hopes that we can be an example and inspiration to other, like-minded facilities.
